Walter's Place

Here are photos of my hotel in Gimmelwald. It's officially called the Mittighorn Hotel, but everyone refers to it as "Walter's Place." Walter Mittler, age 88, took over the hotel from his elderly aunt in 1972. He previously worked as a food services manager for Swiss Air at LaGuardia Airport in NYC. He figured running the hotel would be less hectic. However, American travel writer Rick Steves began touting Walter's Place in the early 1980's. As a result, the hotel is busy all summer long. Walter is a local and international folk hero because he gives practically all his profits to a charity in Ecuador.
