Tourists gather at 11:00 a.m. and 12 noon to watch the New Town Hall Clock do its thing. First, the out-of-key bells ring for five minutes (the Munich city fathers paid a million bucks to have the bells tuned correctly, to no avail). Then, for ten long minutes, the figurines play out various scenes from Bavarian history. At one point, a mounted Bavarian knight slays an Austrian knight who gets knocked off his horse. The crowd cheers wildly when the Austrian knight is killed (What's that all about?). I overheard a sarcastic tour guide describe the entire process as "Only marginally less boring than the Astronomical Clock in Prague."
