Town Hall WTF?

The main square in Munich is called "Marienplatz." On one side there is the massive New Town Hall built in a Neo-Gothic style in 1908 (top and middle photos). On the other side is the Old Town Hall built in 1974 (bottom photo). So, the Old Town Hall is actually newer than the New Town Hall. WTF? Actually, there's an explanation. The Old Town Hall was completely destroyed in World War II and was rebuilt when cash flowed into Munich during and after the 1972 Summer Olympics.
